The Novus Ordo is the Mass most Catholic couples know — the form celebrated in the overwhelming majority of parishes across the country. Familiarity, though, is exactly what makes it easy for a photographer to grow careless. A common Mass deserves the same reverence as a rare one.

What stays the same, no matter how familiar the Mass

Whether it's a small parish wedding or a full Nuptial Mass with a processional of a hundred guests, the questions I ask myself never change: where is the light, where does the priest move, and where can I stand without ever becoming part of the moment I'm documenting. The Consecration is still the Consecration. The exchange of consent is still the center of the day, not the walk back down the aisle.
